WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Four Lycoming College volleyball players used double-digit kill efforts as the team hit .283 to post an impressive 3-2 (25-13, 23-25, 25-22, 22-25, 15-13) win over Ithaca College, the first in program history, to wrap up the first day of the 16
th Tip-Off Tournament at Lamade Gym on Friday, Sept. 27. The Warriors also notched a 3-0 win over Elmira, also the first in program history, earlier in the day.
 
Down 12-10 in the fifth set, Lycoming rallied behind sophomore 
Bethany Richardson (York, Pa./West York), who slammed down her 499
th career kill to bring Lycoming (12-6 overall) within a point before senior 
Katelyn McKillop (Mount Pocono, Pa./Pocono Mountain West) tied the match with an ace. Richardson added her 500
th kill a moment later to give Lycoming the 13-12 lead.
 
After an Ithaca kill, Richardson knocked down her 14
th kill of the match and senior 
Shelby Gear (Rochester, N.Y./Gates-Chili) finished the night with her 13
th kill, giving Lycoming its first win in 10 tries against the Bombers (6-12 overall).
 
Freshman 
Maggie Slawson (Armagh, Pa./United) led the Warriors with 15 kills in the match, while Richardson added 14 kills, three aces, two blocks and a .375 hitting percentage. Gear added three aces and hit .259 and junior 
Kylee Sutton (Wysox, Pa./Towanda Area) tied a career-high with 11 kills and she hit .429. Freshman 
Kristine Jahn (Enola, Pa./Cumberland Valley) added eight kills, as Lycoming slammed down 71 in the match.
 
McKillop finished with 54 assists and 14 digs to go with four kills and two aces and junior 
Kristin Whitehead (Avon, Ohio/Avon) added a match-high 15 digs. Junior 
Amber Seibel (McDonald, Pa./South Fayette) added 12 digs and freshman 
Lauren Fink (York, Pa./West York) posted six kills and 10 digs.
 
Ithaca was led by 20 kills from Shaelynn Schmidt, 26 assists and 10 digs from Molly Brown and seven blocks from Abbie Hutchinson.
 
In the first match, the Warriors used hot-hitting performances from Richardson and Slawson to ride to a 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-11) win against Elmira, the first win over the Eagles in six tries.
 
Richardson hit .474 to lead the Warriors, notching 10 kills and adding three blocks, while Slawson also contributed 10 kills and hit .381.
 
Senior 
Shelby Gear (Rochester, N.Y./Gates-Chili) added seven kills and two blocks and senior 
Katelyn McKillop (Mount Pocono, Pa./Pocono Mountain West) notched 32 assists, four aces, seven digs and three blocks. Junior 
Kristin Whitehead (Avon, Ohio/Avon) notched six aces and a team-high eight digs and junior 
Amber Seibel (McDonald, Pa./South Fayette) notched seven digs. Freshman 
Lauren Fink (York, Pa./West York) also added six kills and six digs.
 
The Warriors hit .303 in the first set and a hefty .370 in the third to sow up the win, as they notched a .287 hitting effort in the match.
 
The Eagles (10-5 overall) were led by 14 kills from Taryn Rumsey and Sami Hanes added 19 assists and 10 digs. Both Catherine Miller and Kierstin Derr notched 11 digs and Alicia Day posted three blocks.
 
The Warriors get back on the court on Saturday, Sept. 28, at 10 a.m., as they start the second day of the Tip-Off Tournament against St. Mary's (Md.) before wrapping up the tournament against Penn College at 2 p.m.
