Warriors shutout Giants to extend hot streak

Box Score

La PLUME, Pa. – Three goals in the first 19 minutes and consistent pressure throughout the game helped the Lycoming College men's soccer team extend its streak of games without a loss to six, as it posted a 4-0 non-conference win over Keystone College on Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 24.

Freshman Alfonce Mutuku (Beltsville, Md./DeMatha Catholic) scored two of the three goals in the opening 20 to lead the Warriors (5-2-1 overall) to another win during their eye-opening stretch, as the team surpassed its 2012 win total. The six games without a loss (5-0-1) is the longest stretch for the Warriors since the 2007 team went on a six-game winning streak.

Keystone fell to 0-7-1 on the season.

Lycoming got on the board in the fifth minute, as freshman Moises Lazo (Bowie, Md./Bowie) hoisted a corner kick to the waiting head of senior Connor McNiff (Marietta, Pa./Donegal), who finished the play. Mutuku scored his first goal on a similar play less than six minutes later and added another headed in goal in the 19th minute after getting service from junior Kevin Seymour (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll). Freshman Bill Kerr (Bowie, Md./DeMatha Catholic) also assisted on the play.

In the second half, the Warriors finished off the game with a goal in the 82nd minute, as junior Ethan Wilston (Mansfield, Pa./Mansfield) knocked in a rebound off the post to make it 4-0.

Lycoming played solidly throughout, holding an 18-5 advantage in shots and a 5-0 lead in corner kicks.

Junior Connor Keenan (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) recorded one save in the first half to earn the win before yielding to freshman Josh Gildea (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh), who finished the game. Keystone's Dany O'Rourke stopped four shots.

The Warriors get back on the field on Saturday, Sept. 28, when they head to Rochester, who is receiving votes in the NSCAA poll, for a 7 p.m. start at Fauver Stadium.
