SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Senior
Brooke Strausser (Myerstown, Pa./Conrad Weiser Area) broke a school record and added three goals to lead the Lycoming College women’s lacrosse team on Wednesday afternoon, March 20, at No. 13 Susquehanna University, but a 15-goal first-half helped Susquehanna post a 19-6 win at the Sassafras Fields.
Strausser posted nine draw controls in the game, helping her shatter the school record for career draw controls, finishing the game with 177, five more than Megan Wallenhorst, who posted 172 from 2005-08. She also posted three of the team’s five goals, giving her 110 in her career, the eighth-best mark in school history.
The Crusaders (8-0 overall) opened the game with the first 14 goals before sophomore
Erin Cieniewicz (Shillington, Pa./Governor Mifflin) got Lycoming (2-4 overall) on the board late in the first half. In the second half, the Warriors outscored the Crusaders, 5-4, as junior
Amber Graybill (Pasadena, Md./Northeast) started a 3-0 run with 24:31 left in the game with a score. She followed with an assist on a goal by freshman
Elizabeth Seitzinger (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) before sophomore
Casey Maguire (Egg Harbor Township, N.J./Egg Harbor Township) found Strausser for her first of three goals in the half.
Maguire added two assists and Graybill posted a goal and assist. Cieniewicz notched four draw controls and sophomore
Alysha Conley (Camden, Del./Caesar Rodney) posted three groundballs to lead the Warriors.
Emma Ehler crossed the 100-goal mark with a six-goal effort to lead the Warriors, as she also added an assist. Michelle McGinniss notched three goals and four draw controls and Emma Jones added four caused turnovers.
In net, senior
Lauren Reitnouer (New Holland, Pa./Garden Spot) posted four saves for Lycoming. Susquehanna’s Emily Stainkaitis, Carolyn Figliola and Katelyn Brower combined for three saves.
The Warriors get back in action on Saturday, March 23, when they head to Lancaster Bible for a 1 p.m. game.
