Warriors step into playoff race with 2-1 OT win over Arcadia

Box Score

GLENSIDE, Pa. – Freshman Bill Kerr (Bowie, Md./DeMatha Catholic) buried a penalty kick in the 96th minute to help lift the Lycoming College men's soccer team to a critical 2-1 overtime Commonwealth Conference win over Arcadia University on Saturday evening, Oct. 26.

Kerr's penalty kick strike sealed the Warriors' first win over the Knights (6-9-2 overall, 2-4-1 Commonwealth) since 2008, as Lycoming got the penalty kick after freshman Moises Lazo (Bowie, Md./Bowie) played a ball into the box for junior Adam Kuntz (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) who dribbled inside the goal box on a breakaway before being pulled down, drawing the foul.

The win also considerably lifts the Warriors' playoff hopes, as they improved to 8-6-2 overall and 3-3-1 Commonwealth with two games remaining in the regular season. With 10 points, the Warriors sit in a tie for fourth-place (and the final two playoff slots) with Lebanon Valley (9-5-3 overall, 3-3-1 Commonwealth) and three points ahead of sixth-place Stevenson, Albright, Arcadia and Hood entering the final week of the regular season.

The Warriors scored first, as a corner kick was deflected out to freshman Dom Haynes (Pocono Summit, Pa./Pocono Mountain East), who buried a shot into the right corner of the net in the 78th minute. Arcadia evened the score just four minutes later, as Joseph Bertucci headed a ball into the top left corner, setting up the dramatic end.

Junior keeper Connor Keenan (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) posted seven saves in net for the Warriors, including making two saves in overtime, as Arcadia fired 14 shots in the game. Arcadia keeper Ryan Lantzy stopped five shots off 10 Lycoming shots.

The Warriors get back on the field with another important Commonwealth Conference matchup at the Shangraw Athletic Complex on Wednesday, Oct. 30, at 4 p.m. against second-place Elizabethtown.
