WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – A goal in each half helped lift the Lycoming College men's soccer team to a 2-0 Commonwealth Conference win over Albright College at the Shangraw Athletic Complex on Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 16.

The Warriors (7-4-2 overall, 2-1-1 Commonwealth) moved into solid position with seven points as the conference season neared its midpoint with the win, sitting in second place before four evening Commonwealth Conference games were played. The shutout also marked the Warriors' second shutout of a conference opponent this season, marking the first time since 2008 the team had achieved the feat.

The Warriors got on the board with a nifty play in the 32

Justin Walker (Stroudsburg, Pa./Moravian Academy) tossed the ball into the goal box on a throw-in, where senior
Connor McNiff (Donegal, Pa./Marietta) flicked it behind him to freshman
Alfonce Mutuku (Beltsville, Md./DeMatha Catholic), who finished the play by hitting the inside right crossbar and sending the ball careening into the right side of the net for his team-leading seventh goal.

Lycoming iced the game in the second half, as junior
Ethan Wilston (Mansfield, Pa./Mansfield) took advantage of a charging Lion defense, sending a perfect serve in behind the defense, where junior
Nate Smith (Ulster, Pa./Troy) corralled the ball after the goalie knocked it behind him and Smith shot it low into the open net.

Connor Keenan (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) finished off his third complete shutout of the season and the team's fifth, making one save for the Warriors. Albright's keeper, David Oram, stopped four shots.

The Warriors stayed aggressive throughout the game, firing 14 shots while allowing Albright to take just four. In its four conference games, the Warriors are allowing opponents an average of six shots per game and have allowed just two goals. Lycoming also held a 9-4 advantage in corner kicks.
