Lazo’s 90th-minute goal lifts Warriors to draw with Pride

Box Score

CHESTER, Pa. – Freshman Moises Lazo (Bowie, Md./Bowie) scored with 46 seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime, where the Lycoming College men's soccer team was able to take away a key point in its quest to make the Commonwealth Conference playoffs, tying Widener, 1-1, in a tough road environment at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium on Friday night, Oct. 11.

The tie was the fifth time in seven games against the Pride (5-5-3 overall, 0-1-2 Commonwealth) that the game went into overtime, with the score identical to the 1-1 tie in Chester in 2012. The tie helps keep the Warriors (6-4-2 overall, 1-1-1 Commonwealth) in fourth place in the Commonwealth Conference with four points and six games remaining, one point ahead of Arcadia and Hood, who each play on Saturday, Oct. 12.

Lycoming held a 6-3 advantage in shots and a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks as the second half progressed, but it was Widener that got on the board first when a foul inside the box led to a penalty kick, which Tori Remondelli converted.

The Warriors used nearly every second left to draw even, but did so in the 90th minute, as Lazo lifted a shot inside the right post from 15 yards out to send the game into overtime. Lazo moved into the team lead with 12 points on three goals and a league-leading six assists.

In the first overtime, the Warriors got the first opportunity, as junior Kevin Seymour (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) fired a shot in the third minute of the period that was saved. Less than a minute later, Widener countered with Krcic Malik heading a shot towards Lycoming's net, forcing junior Connor Keenan (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) to make his first save of the night. Neither team took a shot in the second overtime.

Keenan finished with one save in 107 minutes of action before freshman Josh Gildea (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh) finished the final three minutes. Widener's Jakub Valdner stopped four shots, as Lycoming finished with an 8-6 advantage in shots.

The Warriors get back on the field on Wednesday, Oct. 16, when they host Albright at the Shangraw Athletic Complex at 4 p.m. in another key Commonwealth Conference match.
