HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Lycoming College women’s soccer team hung tough with rival Juniata College in non-conference action on Monday afternoon, Sept. 3, but a second-half Juniata goal provided the margin in the 1-0 game at Winton Hill Field.
The Warriors (0-2 overall) played well defensively, allowing just five of Juniata’s 16 shots to be placed on goal. The Eagles (2-0 overall) got the game-winning goal in the 61
st minute, when Jenna Rodrigue scored on a helper from Sarah Rhodes.
The Warrior offense placed three shots on net and four in the game.
Sophomore
Sam Stropko (Sayre, Pa./Athens Area) made one save in the first half for the Warriors before yielding to junior
Caitlin Dougherty (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone), who stopped three shots in the second half.
Juniata keeper Kristin Twardowski stopped three shots to earn the shutout.
The Warriors will get back on the field on Thursday, Sept. 6, when they head to Selinsgrove, Pa., for the River Derby with Susquehanna. Kickoff for the trophy game is set for 7 p.m.
