HERSHEY, Pa. – Freshman
Nic McGee (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport) led the Lycoming College golf team to a school-best sixth place finish since joining the Commonwealth Conference in 2008, as the rookie finished tied for 18
th after a second round 82 at the conference championship at the par-71, 7,061-yard Hershey Country Club East Course on Sunday, April 29.
McGee’s 82 helped him move eight spots up the leaderboard. It was the best score for a Warrior golfer since Robert Wentzel posted a 77 on April 17, 2008 at the Susquehanna Spring Invitational and it was the best round ever for a golfer as part of the Commonwealth Conference Championship. James Davidson posted an 80 at the Shawnee Inn and Golf Club in 2007 as part of the Freedom Conference Championship.
The Warriors finished tied for sixth with Widener and eight strokes ahead of Arcadia. Alvernia won the title with a final score of 624, one stroke ahead of Albright. Avery Jones earned medallist honors with a two-round score of four-over-par 146.
McGee finished his two rounds with a score of 169 to finish 27-over-par. Fellow freshman
Will Dietz (Mansfield, Pa./Mansfield Area) finished second on the team in 29
th place after shooting a season-best 89 for a two-day score of 182.
Senior
Josh Chmelik (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) came in 32
nd with a score of 188 (90-98) and sophomore
Zack Czap (Philipsburg, Pa./Philipsburg-Osceola) took 36
th with a score of 192 (89-103). Junior
Drew Tompkins (Montgomery, Pa./Montgomery) rounded out the team’s golfers, finishing 39
th with a score of 195 (100-95).
The Warriors finished sixth at the conference tournament in 2007 and 2008, but the field was only six and seven teams, respectively.
