READING, Pa. – Senior
Josh Chmelik (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) posted a career-best round of 86 and finished a team season-best finish of 28
th to help lead the Lycoming College golf team to its best team round since 2010, carding a 358 to place 11
th at the Alvernia Invitational played at the par-70, 6,162-yard Reading County Club on a beautiful Thursday, April 19.
The Warriors posted their best round since carding a 355 at the Susquehanna Spring Invitational on April 5, 2010.
Chmelik posted seven pars during the round, making the corner at 7-over-par before finishing at 9-over-par on the back nine. He bested his previous career-best round by five strokes in the process, as he finished tied for 28
th in the 59-golfer field.
Freshman
Nic McGee (South Williamsport, Pa./South Williamsport) was just behind Chmelik, carding an 87 to finish tied for 32
nd. McGee notched six pars in the round.
Senior
Chris Butterworth (Shillington, Pa./Governor Mifflin) added a career-best tying round of 92 to finish 43
rd and freshman
William Dietz (Mansfield, Pa./Mansfield Area) carded a season-best 93 to take 44
th. Freshman
Jeff Poshkus (Lafayette, N.J./Pope John) took 55
th with a round of 115 to round out the Warriors’ competitors.
The Warriors will now take nine days off to get set for the Commonwealth Conference Championship on April 28-29. The 36-hole event at the East Course at Hershey Country Club will begin on Saturday, April 28 at 8:30 a.m.
