WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Junior
Brooke Strausser (Myerstown, Pa./Conrad Weiser) became the 12
th player in school history to reach 100 career points for the Lycoming College women’s lacrosse team, but King’s (Pa.) scored 17 goals in the first half en route to a 23-14 win on Tuesday, April 17, at McCarthy Stadium.
Strausser was a part of a potent Lycoming offense, as four Warriors scored three or more goals, including four goals from sophomore
Amber Graybill (Pasadena, Md./Northeast) and three each from sophomore
Maureen Heagy (Upper Darby, Pa./Upper Darby) and freshman
Casey Maguire (Egg Harbor Township, N.J./Egg Harbor Township).
King’s (8-5 overall) jumped out to an 11-2 lead and never led the Warriors (3-10 overall) back within seven until a goal by Heagy scored a goal with 15:08 left in the second half that made it 19-13, ending a run of four straight Lycoming goals. King’s closed the game, though, with four of the last five goals.
Strausser led the Warriors with four goals, with her second goal helping her reach the 100-point plateau, as she added four groundballs, five draw controls and three caused turnovers. Junior
Hope Pappas (Upper Darby, Pa./Upper Darby) posted six draw controls and junior
Lindsay Schilling (Woodbine, Md./South Carroll) and freshman
Erin Cieniewicz (Shillington, Pa./Governor Mifflin) each picked up four groundballs. The Warriors scooped up 19 groundballs in the game, three more than the Monarchs.
Chelsea Manes led the Monarchs with seven goals, two assists and five groundballs and Amanda Harney added six goals and an assist. Emily Foley led the team with 12 draw controls.
In net, Megan Withrow made nine saves to earn the win for King’s. Senior
Kristina Maurer (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Marian Catholic) stopped six shots for the Warriors.
The Warriors get back on the field on Thursday, April 19, when they head to Marywood for a 5:05 p.m. game that will be broadcast on WQMY My Network TV. The game will be televised live on Comcast channel 11 (Scranton area), Service Electric channel 4 (Wilkes-Barre area), Direct TV HD or DishNetwork channel 53 or over the air on channel 53.1.
