Hinton wraps up run at NCAA Championships

La CROSSE, Wis. – Lycoming College senior 125-pounder Stephen Hinton (Montclair, Va./Forest Park) saw his run at the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships come to a close during Friday evening, March 9’s session, as he lost in the second round of the consolation bracket to finish his tournament, 1-2, at the La Crosse Center.
 
Wisconsin-Oshkosh’s Zach Mueller posted a 17-0 technical fall over Hinton to advance to the All-American round at the championships, where he will face Coe’s Jimmy Gotto.
 
Hinton, a three-time ECWC All-Academic Team member and a two-time NWCA Scholar All-American, finished his senior year with a 19-4 overall record, three pins and five major decisions. He went 12-1 in dual meets and won the ECWC title at 125 pounds en route to taking the ECWC Most Outstanding Wrestler award. He beat two nationally-ranked wrestlers during the season and also won the conference’s wrestler of the week award twice.
 
The criminal justice major won 19 matches in a season twice in his career and finished with a 49-37 mark during his four years at Lycoming. He posted five career pins and recorded a 30-20 dual meet record.
 
The Warriors finished the 2011-12 campaign with a  7-8 dual meet record under 19th-year head coach Roger Crebs.
