Strausser, Maguire post hat tricks, but Warriors fall to Allegheny

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. –
Junior Brooke Strausser (Myerstown, Pa./Conrad Weiser Area) and freshman Casey Maguire (Egg Harbor Township, N.J./Egg Harbor Township) each posted three goals and sophomore Sarah Quigley (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown South) added a goal and three assists, but the Lycoming College women’s lacrosse team fell to Allegheny, 17-11, on a sunny, Wednesday, March 7 at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.
 
The Gators (2-1 overall) used an 8-1 run early in a 17-minute span of the second half to take a 15-7 lead and clinch the win over the Warriors (0-2 overall).
 
Lycoming stayed with Allegheny for much of the first half, as Maguire got Lycoming on the board with a goal just 56 seconds on the board, before the Gators went on a 5-1 run to take a 5-2 lead. However, the Warriors fought back, as Strausser connected on a free position shot before freshman Liz Francescone (Cream Ridge, N.J./Notre Dame) scored her first collegiate goal on a dish from Quigley to close within a point. However, Allegheny scored a free-position goal of their own to take a 6-4 lead in the first half.
 
In the second half, Allegheny took a 7-4 lead with a goal 36 seconds into the half before Lycoming closed within a goal as Strausser and Maguire connected to make it 7-6 with 26:56 left. However, a pair of goals by Kiah Voyer-Colbath started the Gators on their 8-1 run. Lycoming outscored the Gators, 4-2 in the closing eight minutes to make up the final margin.
 
Strausser finished with three goals, three groundballs and two draw controls and Maguire notched three goals and four groundballs. Quigley posted a goal and a career-high tying three assists. Freshman Erin Cieniewicz (Shillington, Pa./Governor Mifflin) notched her first collegiate goal, nine groundballs and five draw controls. Sophomore Amber Graybill (Pasadena, Md./Northeast) and sophomore Maureen Heagy (Drexel Hill, Pa./Upper Darby) each added a goal and junior Lindsay Schilling (Woodbine, Md./South Carroll) added four groundballs.
 
Berennan Maine, Voyer-Colba and Rodgers each posted three goals, with Rodgers and Monique Villanue adding two assists a piece. Rodgers also posted eight groundballs and Maine added three caused turnovers.
 
In goal, senior Kristina Maurer (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Marian Catholic) stopped 10 shots in her 2012 debut for the Warriors and Carly Minsterman notched eight saves in the win for the Gators.
 
The Warriors now head to Myrtle Beach, S.C., for Snowbird Lacrosse, facing Becker on Monday, March 12 at 10 a.m.
