DALLAS, Pa. – Freshman
Casey Maguire (Egg Harbor, N.J./Egg Harbor Township) scored a career-high six goals for the Lycoming College women’s lacrosse team but Misericordia University posted 16 first-half goals en route to a 24-13 win in the opening game of the Misericordia Classic on a sunny, Friday, March 23.
Maguire scored three second-half goals to pace the Warriors (3-3 overall), including connecting on two free-position shots.
The two teams battled out to a tie at five through the first 12 minutes of the game, with junior
Brooke Strausser (Myertown, Pa./Conrad Weiser Area) posting two goals in that period. However, the Cougars (3-3 overall) went on an 11-1 run, ending right before half, as Maguire posted her third goal of the game with 1:04 left to help Lycoming close within 16-7.
Lycoming closed the gap to seven goals with a 4-2 run through the first 15 minutes of the second half after a goal by Strausser, but Misericordia wouldn’t let the Warriors any closer and finished the game with four goals in the last two minutes.
Strausser posted three goals, an assist, nine draw controls and two caused turnovers. Sophomore
Sarah Quigley (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown South) and sophomore
Maureen Heagy (Drexel Hill, Pa./Upper Darby) each posted two goals. Junior
Hope Pappas (Upper Darby, Pa./Drexel Hill) led the team with four groundballs and two caused turnovers. In goal, senior
Kristina Maurer (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Marian Catholic) finished with seven saves.
Emily Foley led the Cougars with six goals, an assist and 12 draw controls and Melina Juliano added five goals, two assists and seven groundballs. Krista Shenk posted four goals and an assist and both Kate Pagnotta and Gabriella Cerrone added three goals and two assists. In net, Erika Proctor posted 14 saves.
The Warriors wrap up their time at the Misericordia Classic on Saturday, March 24 when they face Elmira at 1 p.m.
