WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Five Lycoming College men’s basketball players finished in double-figures, but a 15-2 run in the final 5:02 by Salisbury University helped it sneak out of Lamade Gym with the 15
th annual Tip-Off Tournament title and an 85-82 win on Saturday, Nov. 17.
The Warriors (1-1 overall) were led by shooting guard sophomores
Chris Foreman (Union, N.J./Union) and All-Tournament Team member
Pat Dougher (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood), as each connected on four 3-pointers. Foreman finished with 16 points, three assists and three steals and Dougher had 15. Junior
Kevin Anthony (Columbus, Ohio/Bridgton Academy) added 11 points and six rebounds and both freshman
William Wingate (Philadelphia, Pa./Mastery Charter) and senior
Ihsaan Davis (Jamaica, N.Y./Christ the King) each added 10, with Wingate also adding three steals.
After a 3-pointer from junior
Michael Rudy (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) gave the Warriors an 80-73 lead with the clock rolling under five minutes, the Sea Gulls (3-0 overall) forced five Warrior turnovers in the closing minutes and tournament MVP Travon Vann helped give the Sea Gulls the lead with 39 seconds left on a breakaway dunk. Vann also added a pair of free throws with 24 seconds left to round out the scoring, and a late 3-point attempt by Lycoming fell off the mark.
Salisbury got out to a hot start, taking a 26-17 lead with 9:09 left, but the Warriors went on an 11-point run, with Foreman hitting a 3-pointer with 5:24 left in the half to take a 28-26 lead. The Warriors kept the pressure on, wrapping up a 21-4 run when Dougher connected on a 3-pointer to make it 38-30 with 3:18 left. The Sea Gulls closed the gap to three points at halftime at 41-38.
Lycoming were able to keep control for much of the second half, extending the lead to as many as nine points after a trey by Foreman with 10:44 left. The Warriors kept the lead until Vann’s breakaway dunk set up the final seconds.
Rudy finished with eight points and junior
Jerald Williams (Riverdale, Md./Bladensburg) added three points, 10 assists and two steals.
Vann finished with 30 points, 18 rebounds, six assists and three blocks. Tim Harwood added 16 points and two assists and All-Tournament Team member Trent Epps added 15 points.
In the consolation game, Tyrik Tucker scored 27 points and had 12 rebounds to lead Old Westbury to a 97-53 win over Penn State Wilkes-Barre.
The Warriors get back in action on Tuesday, Nov. 20, when they head to Susquehanna for an 8 p.m. contest.
