WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior Charlie Vess (Lexington Park, Md./Great Mills) became the 22nd player in school history to reach 15 career goals for the Lycoming College men’s soccer team, but Lebanon Valley’s Cam Alexander scored three goals to help lift the Dutchmen to a 4-1 win in Commonwealth Conference action on Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 9.

Vess helped cut into an early Flying Dutchmen lead, when he scored just nine seconds after the second Dutchmen goal, breaking down the field, cutting to the right and firing a shot into the left corner of the net to give him 15 career goals and seven on the season.

However, despite outshooting the Dutchmen (10-2-1 overall, 3-1 Commonwealth), 17-16, the Warriors (4-5-2 overall, 1-2-1 Commonwealth) fell victim to several nice plays by Alexander, whose first goal came on a shot that settled into the net over a leaping Lycoming keeper on a shot from 30 yards out in the fifth minute.

In the 17th minute, Lebanon Valley added a header by Andrew Cooper that went high into the net before Vess cut the deficit in half with a quick strike. However, Alexander answered with a breakaway goal in the 33rd minute and also scored in the 52nd.

Senior James Quinn (Buffalo, N.Y./Kenmore East) made four saves in 77 minutes for the Warriors before sophomore Connor Keenan (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) made two saves in the final 13 minutes. Lebanon Valley’s James Clements stopped four shots in 81 minutes before Brian Frasca played the final nine.

A large crowd of 486, aided by several athletics teams, including the football team before its practice, helped the Warriors post their largest attendance since 493 came to the Battle of the Boot against Susquehanna in 2007. It was the second-largest attendance for a game at the Shangraw Athletic Complex since the field was resurfaced with artificial turf in 2005.

The Warriors stay at the Shangraw Athletic Complex, where they will face Stevenson in a critical Commonwealth Conference showdown on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 1 p.m.
