Warriors fall to Pride

CHESTER, Pa. – Sophomore Sam Stropko (Sayre, Pa./Athens Area) made seven saves to lead the Lycoming College women’s soccer team, but two first half assists from Karen Thomas on goals less than a minute apart helped Widener University to a 3-0 win at Leslie C. Quick Stadium on Saturday evening, Oct. 6 in Commonwealth Conference action.
 
The Pride (5-5-1 overall, 2-1 Commonwealth) scored twice midway through the first half, with Nicole Foschini scoring in the 23rd minute and Jenna Pedrick scoring one minute later, both on helpers from Thomas. Widener’s third goal came in the 88th minute on a shot from Victoria Batter.
 
Lycoming (1-8-3 overall, 0-2-1 Commonwealth) was outshot, 18-2, as Stropko stopped four shots in the first half and three in the second, while the team also benefitted from a defensive save. Widener’s keeper Vanessa Hejnas stopped one shot in the shutout.
 
The Warriors now head home for a pair of games, starting with a 4 p.m. game against Commonwealth Conference foe Lebanon Valley on Wednesday, Oct. 10. The game will have an audio broadcast on ESPNWilliamsport.com.
