CHESTER, Pa. – Sophomore Sam Stropko (Sayre, Pa./Athens Area) made seven saves to lead the Lycoming College women’s soccer team, but two first half assists from Karen Thomas on goals less than a minute apart helped Widener University to a 3-0 win at Leslie C. Quick Stadium on Saturday evening, Oct. 6 in Commonwealth Conference action.
 
The Pride (5-5-1 overall, 2-1 Commonwealth) scored twice midway through the first half, with Nicole Foschini scoring in the 23^rd minute and Jenna Pedrick scoring one minute later, both on helpers from Thomas. Widener’s third goal came in the 88^th minute on a shot from Victoria Batter.
 
Lycoming (1-8-3 overall, 0-2-1 Commonwealth) was outshot, 18-2, as Stropko stopped four shots in the first half and three in the second, while the team also benefitted from a defensive save. Widener’s keeper Vanessa Hejnas stopped one shot in the shutout.
 
The Warriors now head home for a pair of games, starting with a 4 p.m. game against Commonwealth Conference foe Lebanon Valley on Wednesday, Oct. 10. The game will have an audio broadcast on ESPNWilliamsport.com.
