Kaitlyn Gulotta (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) scored twice, including with four minutes left in the second overtime, leading the Lycoming College women’s soccer team to its first win in the Commonwealth Conference since 2009, posting a 3-2 win over Hood in the season finale for both teams on Saturday, Oct. 27.
Gulotta broke a 2-2 tie in the 107
th minute, as junior
Stephanie Watters (Oxford, N.J./Warren Hills Regional) found her before Gulotta found the back of the net for the first multi-goal game of the season for the Warriors (2-13-3 overall, 1-7-1 Commonwealth).
Gulotta got the Warriors the lead with the first shot of the second half, as freshman
Leah Handwerk (Hockessin, Del./Wilmington Friends School) found her for Gulotta’s team-leading third strike of the season. The Blazers (2-15 overall, 0-9 Commonwealth) tied the game, though, in the 62
nd minute when Aimee Smith scored.
In the first half, the Blazers got on the board first, scoring in the 36
th minute when Lia Miller found the back of the net, but the Warriors got on the board eight minutes later, as Handwerk found junior
Briana Riddick (Slatington, Pa./Northern Lehigh), and Riddick dropped in her second goal of the year to equalize the game heading into the break.
Both goalies were forced into a lot of action in the first half, as Leah Norris stopped two shots for Hood and sophomore
Sam Stropko (Sayre, Pa./Athens Area) stopped three for the Warriors.
Norris finished with six saves and Stropko and senior
Jennifer Basch (Pottsgrove, Pa./Pottstown) combined for five, with Basch making two stops in the final 62 minutes in net.
