WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Freshman
Bethany Richardson (York, Pa./West York Area) led the Lycoming College volleyball team with 20 kills during its tri-match with Moravian and Marymount (Va.) on Saturday, Oct. 20 at Lamade Gym, but the Warriors fell to Moravian, 3-0 (25-6, 25-20, 25-17), and Marymount, 3-1 (25-16, 18-25, 25-14, 25-17).
Richardson led the Warriors (19-9 overall) with 14 kills and three aces against Marymount (22-8 overall) while junior
Chelsee Strine (South Boardman, Mich./Forest Area) added 12 kills, six digs and hit .423.
Junior
Katelyn McKillop (Mount Pocono, Pa./Pocono Mountain West) added 37 assists, 19 digs and two aces and sophomore
Kristin Whitehead (Avon, Ohio/Avon) notched 17 digs. Both junior
Shelby Gear (Rochester, N.Y./Gates-Chili) and sophomore
Kylee Sutton (Wysox, Pa./Towanda Area) each had five kills.
Against Moravian, Strine led the Warriors with seven kills, eight digs and two blocks and Richardson added six kills, five digs and a block. Gear posted four blocks and four digs and sophomore
Laura Cinicola (Tamaqua, Pa./Marion Catholic) notched six digs. McKillop finished with 16 assists and two blocks and Whitehead had a team-high nine digs.
The Greyhounds (22-5 overall) were led by 18 kills and a .762 hitting percentage from Samantha Savite. Taylor Jennings added eight kills as the Greyhounds hit .337 to earn the sweep. Kelly Brown posted 28 assists and 14 digs and Jesse Krasley added seven assists and 11 digs.
The Warriors will now face a must-win Commonwealth Conference match on Tuesday, Oct. 23, when they host Arcadia (7-14 overall, 1-6 Commonwealth) at Lamade Gym at 7 p.m. If the Warriors win, they will secure one of the five conference playoff bids with a 5-4 conference record.
