MECHANICSBURG, Pa. – The Lycoming College men’s soccer team fell to third-ranked Messiah College, 6-0, on Wednesday night, Oct. 17, in Commonwealth Conference action, holding the Falcons to just one goal for the first 78 minutes of the game.
Lycoming (4-7-2 overall, 1-4-1 Commonwealth) became the first Commonwealth Conference team this season to hold Messiah (14-0-1 overall, 6-0 Commonwealth) scoreless in the first half. Messiah took 13 shots, but only two were on net, with sophomore
Connor Keenan (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) making two stops.
In the second half, Messiah got on the board in the 55
th minute when Brian Ramirez converted a penalty kick and the Falcons closed out the game with five goals in the last 11:02.
Jack Thompson led the Falcons with two goals and an assist and Jeremy Payne posted one goal and two assists.
Keenan posted four saves for the Warriors on 31 Falcon shots and Messiah goalkeeper Brandon West notched one save on three Warrior shots.
The Warriors are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 20, when they host Commonwealth Conference foe Arcadia at 12 p.m. At halftime of the game, Lycoming will honor its eight seniors in a brief ceremony.
