WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – A second-half penalty kick goal helped lift Stevenson University to a critical 1-0 win over the Lycoming College men’s soccer team in Commonwealth Conference action on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 13, at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.

A foul inside the box helped set Christopher Panian up for the penalty kick, which he put inside the left corner of the net to lift the Mustangs (7-8 overall, 2-3 Commonwealth) to the win, helping move the Mustangs ahead of the Warriors in the league standings.

With four games to play, the Warriors (4-6-2 overall, 1-3-1 Commonwealth), with four conference points, are in eighth place in the conference, needing to move past Albright, Arcadia and Stevenson, who each have six, to clinch one of the five league playoff slots.

The Warriors continued to be aggressive throughout, though, taking 20 shots while holding the Mustangs to just 13 and got several solid chances including a beautiful first half give from senior Pat Marion (Stevens, Pa./Cocalico) to senior Charlie Vess (Lexington Park, Md./Great Mills), who was in front of the Stevenson defense. However, his shot sailed just right of the net.

Kenneth Hershey was able to complete the shutout with eight saves, four in each half for Stevenson. Sophomore Connor Keenan (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) made six stops for the Warriors.

The Warriors get back on the field on Wednesday, Oct. 17, when they head to No. 3 Messiah for a 7 p.m. Commonwealth Conference game.
