WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. –
Sophomore Ashtin Wiley (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle West) headed a corner kick into the center of the net in the 85th minute, but the Lycoming College women’s soccer team couldn’t complete a late comeback, falling to Juniata College, 2-1, in the home opener at the Shangraw Athletic Complex on Tuesday, Sept. 13.

The Warriors (0-3 overall) put some pressure on the Eagles (2-2-1 overall) late in the game, with the team taking six of their 10 shots in the second half. In the 85th minute, the hard work paid off as the Warriors forced a corner and junior Leslie Kester (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Township) fired it high into the net, where Wiley headed it into the top of the twine, cutting the Eagles’ lead to 2-1.

The Eagles took an early lead in the 18th minute when Aimee Radic knocked in a rebound of a shot and added to it in the 80th minute when Mackenzie Magle knocked in a kick off a corner.

Senior Jussae Hanford (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) led the Warriors with four shots, placing them all on goal, while the Eagles were led by Lauren Liacouras’ five shots. Juniata took 18 shots in the game.

In net, sophomore Caitlin Dougherty (Douglasville, Pa./Daniel Boone) made seven stops and allowed a goal in 57 minutes before leaving with an injury. Freshman Sam Stropko (Sayre, Pa./Athens) made three stops and allowed a goal in the final 33 minutes.

Gabriella Ricciardi stopped six shots in net for the Eagles.

The Warriors get back in action on Saturday, Sept. 17, when they head to the Balls Mills Soccer Complex for the Battle for the Lumber with Penn College at 4:30 p.m.
