WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – With first-half scoring strikes from juniors Matt Snively (Hollywood, Md./Leonardtown) and Hermann Shasha (Perry Hall, Md./Perry Hall), the Lycoming College men’s soccer team posted a 2-1 win over Pitt-Bradford on Sunday, Sept. 11, helping the team to its eighth 4-1 or better start in school history.
Snively, the Warriors’ leading scorer in 2010, got the team on the board with his first goal of the season in the 21st minute, dribbling to the top of the box and firing a shot into the lower corner on the inside post, for an unassisted tally.
However, the Panthers tied the game when Abdul Razaq Toby, the reigning Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Player of the Year, scored seven minutes later on a penalty kick.
The Warriors weren’t fazed, though, continuing to use pressure and in the 43rd minute, senior Randon Wilston (Mansfield, Pa./Mansfield) found Shasha at the top of the box and the 5-7 forward delivered a shot over the leaping goalkeeper for his first career tally. The goal also helped Wilston tie his career high of three assists, set as a sophomore.
In the second half, the Warriors shut down the Panthers (0-3-1 overall), allowing just three shots, with junior goalkeeper James Quinn (Buffalo, N.Y./Kenmore East) making two saves. Meanwhile, the Warriors took six of their 13 shots in the half, forcing Pitt-Bradford keeper Adam Forster to make four saves in the half.
Quinn made four saves total in the game and Forster posted seven for the Panthers.
The Warriors host Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 4 p.m. at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.
