Box Score ANNVILLE, Pa. – Junior Grace Gargiulo (Branchburg, N.J./Immaculata) tied a career high with eight goals as she moved within one goal of the school’s single season top 10 to lead the Lycoming College women’s lacrosse team, but Lebanon Valley built a 9-4 lead in the first half and was able to hang on for a 14-12 win in Middle Atlantic Conference action on Wednesday afternoon, April 6.
Gargiulo, posted three goals in the first half and five in the second, with her final goal bringing the Warriors (1-8 overall, 1-4 MAC) within one goal in the second half and giving her 43 on the season, which is tied for 11th in school history. With her first goal of the game, Gargiulo became the 11th player in school history to reach 100 career points. She moved into the top 10 in school history in points with 107, moving past Sammi Jo Bell (2007-10) during the game.
The Dutchmen (4-4 overall, 3-2 MAC) posted two goals to start the game, but the Warriors fought back to tie the game at two 10 minutes into the game after goals from Gargiulo and sophomore Brooke Strausser (Wernersville, Pa./Conrad Weister Area). The Dutchmen took control of the game, though, with seven of the next nine goals before Gargiulo scored with 29 seconds left in the half to make it 9-5 at halftime.
Strausser’s third goal helped the Warriors draw within three points before a goal from the Dutchmen’s Christy Wilson made it, 10-6. Gargiulo took over from there, scoring three goals in a span of three minutes to make it 10-9 with 16:15 left.
However, a pair of goals from Lindsey Buckman in the next three minutes made it 12-9 and the Warriors couldn’t get closer than two points during the final 13 minutes.
Strausser finished with four goals, an assist three caused turnovers and three groundballs and senior Meagan Pittius (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) added an assist. Freshman Amber Graybill (Pasadena, Md./Northeast) led the defense with five groundballs and three caused turnovers.
In net, senior goalkeeper Libby Stoesz (Akron, Pa./Conestoga Valley) posted 12 saves and four groundballs.
Buckman posted five goals and an assist to lead the Dutchmen, also controlling four draws and tying for the team lead with three groundballs. Hana Krechel added three goals and an assist while forcing three turnovers and Kaitlin Montgomery added two goals. Taylor Kruter posted a goal and two assists.
In net, Erica Ameigh stopped 11 shots to earn the win for the Dutchmen.
The Warriors get back on the field on Saturday, April 9, when they host Manhattanville at 1 p.m. at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.
