Senior Russ Korbul (Asbury, N.J./North Hunterdon) took third at 197 pounds to lead the contingent of Lycoming College wrestlers at the Central Jersey Open on the campus of The College of New Jersey on Sunday, Nov. 20.
 
Korbul rolled into the semifinals of the tournament with a 4-1 first-round win over Kutztown’s Vinny Campanile and an 8-3 quarterfinals win over Maryland-Baltimore County’s Alec Pence. In the semifinals, Korbul dropped a close 2-1 decision against Hofstra’s Tim Murphy. In the third-place match, he posted a solid 12-2 win over Virginia Military Institute’s Urayoan Garcia.
 
After an opening-round loss, junior Tyler Cunningham (Haddon Township, N.J./Haddon Township) rolled into the consolation quarterfinals with a 7-4 win over NYU’s Jakub Pawlowski and then posted a 4-2 win over Nassau Community College’s Duncan Murchison. He ensured a spot in the top eight with a 12-0 major decision against Maryland-Baltimore County’s Mike Munno. He fell in the consolation semifinals, 9-6, to Maryland-Baltimore County’s Eldar Muradov to finish tied for seventh.
 
At 125 pounds, freshman Cody Barbiche (Milford, N.J./Delaware Valley Regional) posted a first round 2-0 win over Drexel’s 125 pounds before a quarterfinals lost sent him into the consolation bracket, where he fell, 11-4, in the consolation quarterfinals. Junior Edward Exler (Chesterbrook, Pa./Conestoga) dropped a pigtail match, but came back to post a fall in 6:07 against Kutztown’s Nick Lamoreaux and then added a 12-3 win over Gloucester City’s Gustavo Ibarra before dropping a consolation quarterfinals match, 5-3.
 
At 165 pounds, sophomore Daniel Bennett (Landisville, Pa./Hempfield) fell in the opening round, but followed with an 11-1 win over DeShawn McNeil of Nassau Community College and followed that with a pin over sophomore teammate Gregory Wetzel (Pleasant Valley, N.Y./Arlington). Wetzel also won a first-round match.
 
Both sophomore Zach Finn (East Rochester, N.Y./East Rochester) and junior C.J. Conger (Egg Harbor, N.J./Absegami) each posted consolation bracket wins for their first of the year at 133 pounds. At 141 pounds, freshman Caleb Willey (Towands, Pa./Towanda Area) posted a win in the consolation bracket. At 157 pounds, both freshmen Tyler Evans (Sykesville, Md./Century) and Brian Watkins (Bear Gap, Pa./Southern Columbia) posted their first career wins in the consolation bracket.
 
Sophomore Johnathan Secor (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes) added a consolation bracket win over NYU’s Michael Roberson, getting a pin in 2:45, at 184 pounds. Freshman Sam Batchelor (Birdsboro, Pa./Daniel Boone) also posted his first career win at heavyweight with a pin in 1:36 against Rutgers’ William Smith.
 
The Warriors get back on the mat on Friday, Dec. 2, when they head to Messiah College for the Petrofes Invitational. The two-day event will kick off at 11 a.m.
