Warriors fall to Widener at PPL Park

CHESTER, Pa. – The Lycoming College women’s soccer team took nine shots but couldn’t find the back of the net at the home of the MLS’ Philadelphia Union, PPL Park, on Friday, Oct. 7, as Widener took a 3-0 decision in Commonwealth  Conference action.
 
Karen Thomas scored in the second minute to put the Pride (6-4-1 overall, 1-1 Commonwealth) in control and Devan Doyle and Brittany Harvis each added first-half tallies.
 
Junior Jennifer Basch (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) made three saves in net for the Warriors (2-9 overall, 0-2 Commonwealth) and senior Jussae Hanford (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) and junior Leslie Kester (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Township) led the team with four shots a piece.
 
Vanessa Hejnas earned the win for the Pride, posting four saves in 80 minutes of work before Kelsey Farrend and Valarie Perretti each saw the field.
 
The Warriors face No. 1 Messiah on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 3:30 p.m. in a Commonwealth Conference game.
