WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. –
Two second-half goals by the Lycoming College men’s soccer team were enough to sustain a late rally by Albright, as the Warriors posted a 2-1 win in Commonwealth Conference action on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 22, at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.

The Warriors (8-7-2 overall, 2-3-1 Commonwealth) improved to seven points in the conference, keeping their playoff hopes alive with the second-half scoring outburst. If the Warriors can beat Lebanon Valley on Saturday, Oct. 29, and fourth-place Arcadia falls to second-place Alvernia, both squads will finish with 10 points. The two teams would then go through tiebreaker criteria - starting with head-to-head meeting (a tie), followed by tied teams’ traditional season won-loss records versus conference teams starting with the No. 1 team to the No. 8 team (the same), followed by goal differential between the two teams (1-1) followed by goal differential in conference contests with a maximum of three goals per contest (currently -4 for Lycoming and -1 for Arcadia).

Lycoming broke through in the 48th minute, as junior Charlie Vess (Lexington Park, Md./Great Mills) fired the ball into the box and the goalie deflected it to freshman Chris Hale (Woodbine, Md./Century), who deposited it into the right corner for his first career goal.

In the 66th minute, the Warriors broke through again, as junior Matt Snively (Hollywood, Md./Leonardtown) scored off a breakaway on a give from freshman Adam Kuntz (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East).

The Lions (6-10 overall, 0-6 Commonwealth) ended the shutout bid in the 88th minute, as Mark Yost fired the ball into the upper left corner, but the Warriors allowed just one more shot in the remaining time to take the win.

Freshman Connor Keenan (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) posted seven saves in net for the Warriors before he was issued a red card in the 78th minute. Freshman Nick Bruno (Glenside, Pa./St. Joseph’s Prep) finished the game in net.

Tim Compton made two saves in net for the Lions.

At halftime, the Warriors honored the team’s five seniors, Matt Long (Forest Hill, Md./C. Milton Wright), Kevin Bishop (Lakewood, N.J./Lakewood), Bob Ziegler (Harrisburg, Pa./Strath Haven), Josh Miller (Drums, Pa./Hazleton Area) and Randon Wilston (Mansfield, Pa./Mansfield), as the quintet won their 39th game in the Blue and Gold on Saturday.

The Warriors get back on the field on Wednesday, Oct. 26 when they host Wilkes in the final game of the year at the Shangraw Athletic Complex at 3 p.m.
