Warriors win second straight with 3-1 decision over Mt. Aloysius

CRESSON, Pa. – Freshman Shelby Gear (Rochester, N.Y./Gates-Chili) posted 10 kills and junior Emily Abel (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) added 34 digs to help lead the Lycoming College volleyball team to a 3-1 (19-25, 25-22, 25-20, 25-22) win over Mount Aloysius at the Health and Fitness Center on Wednesday, Sept. 8, night.

The Lady Mounties (2-4 overall) took the first set, but Lycoming (3-1 overall) fought back and controlled the rest of the match, as the team hit a hefty .464 (16-3-28) in the third set en route to the 25-20 win, recovering nicely after hitting -.154 (4-8-26) in the first set.

In the fourth set, Lycoming held a 24-16 advantage before the Mounties narrowed the margin to 24-22, which led to a Lycoming timeout. After the timeout, though, Lycoming claimed the final point to end the match.

Freshman #Katelyn McKillop# (Mount Pocono, Pa./Pocono Mountain West) added 26 assists, eight digs and two aces and freshman Tanya DeWalt (Mainesburg, Pa./Mansfield) posted seven kills and three blocks. Sophomore #Jackie Oliva# (Barnesville, Pa./Mahoney) and senior McKenna Warren (Elmira, N.Y./Elmira C.M.S.) each added six kills and both Oliva and senior Megan Schulze (Reedsville, Pa./Indian Valley) each had two blocks. Freshman Shaina Preiss (East Hampton, N.Y./East Hampton) added two aces and nine digs.

Perehenic Chelsea added 12 kills and 13 digs and Mariah McDowell added nine kills, two blocks and 12 digs. Kirsten Sandler added 21 assists and two aces and Lauren Oldham added eight kills, 14 assists and five digs.

The Warriors head to the Montclair State Tournament this weekend, as they start the tournament by facing Montclair State at 3 p.m. on Friday. The Warriors will also face SUNY Cortland at 7 p.m. during the first day of the tournament.
