Box Score WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – On Tuesday, Sept. 28, the old adage, “If you don’t shoot, you can’t score,” held true at the Shangraw Athletic Complex.
After taking just four shots in the first half as a team, sophomore
Dominick Dorsey (Manchester, Md./North Carroll) took a ball off a hop, got his leg on it and fired from 25 yards out and the knuckling ball slipped under the goalie’s arm, helping to spark a 2-1 come-from-behind win for the Lycoming College men’s soccer team against Frostburg State in non-conference action.
The Warriors (5-5 overall) completed the comeback with just 4:54 left in the game, as sophomore
Charlie Vess (Park Hill, Md./Great Mills) took a pass out front from sophomore
Matt Snively (Hollywood, Md./Leonardtown), beating the defense and firing a shot into the right corner.
While Frostburg State (3-6-1 overall) held a 15-10 advantage in shots and a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks, the Warriors made several adjustments at halftime and came out clicking in the second half, both offensively and defensively. The Bobcats had a pair of quality chances in the half, including a one-on-one breakaway, but in each instance, sophomore keeper
James Quinn (Tonawanda, N.Y./Kenmore East) made key stops.
The Bobcats took the lead in the 21st minute, as Danny Hutchins found Shawn Baker behind the defense and Baker fired the ball into the left corner of the net.
Quinn finished with six saves to earn the win and Stephen Cavallo made five saves for the Bobcats.
The win is Lycoming’s second come-from-behind effort this season, as the team also came back from a 2-1 deficit to take out Misericordia in the season opener on Sept. 1.
Lycoming stays at the Shangraw Athletic Complex for the third of a season-high four-game homestand, as Arcadia comes to the complex to open the Commonwealth Conference on Saturday for a 12 p.m. game.
