HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Thanks to three first-half goals, the Lycoming College women’s soccer team improved to 3-1 for the second time in the Joe Balduino-era, as the Warriors outlasted Juniata College, 3-2, on Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 14.

Senior #Kati Shaner# (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) led the first-half outburst for the Warriors, posting a goal and assisting on the other two, all in a span of six minutes, as she moved into eighth-place on the all-time points list at Lycoming with 42. Her two assists give her 12 in her career, moving her into seventh on the all-time list.

The Warriors got on the board in the 19th minute as Shaner found sophomore #Leslie Kester# (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Township) for a goal. In the 22nd minute, Shaner found the back of the net on a give from junior Kelly Prendergrast (Edison, N.J./Rutgers Prepatory) and two minutes later, Shaner found freshman #Abigail Kantor# (Jarrettsville,  Md./Fallston) for the last goal of the half.

The Eagles (3-2 overall) got back into the game in the second half, as Caitlin Bigelow found the back of the net in the 56th minute on an assist from Jenna Rodriguez and in the 81st minute thanks to a give from Katie Kearing, but that was as close as they could get, as the Warriors’ defense held strong in the last 9:55 to earn the win.

Lycoming outshot Juniata, 15-12, as both keepers, freshman Caitlin Dougherty (Douglasville, Pa./Daniel Boone) and Juniata’s Kristen Penska each posted three saves.

The Warriors get back into action on Saturday when they head to Baptist Bible for a 1 p.m. match, as they try to go 4-1 for the first time since the 2007 team started the year 5-1 under first-year coach Balduino.
