Lady Laxers cruise to 21-8 victory over Lebanon Valley

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior attacker Megan McIntyre scored her 150th career goal as the Lycoming College women’s lacrosse team cruised to a 21-8 victory over Lebanon Valley College on Tuesday, April 27. She finished the day with 10 points.

The Lady Warriors (8-7, 7-4) opened the scoring with a six-goal run. McIntyre got things going, scoring just 1:41 into the game. Thirty seconds later, sophomore midfielder Grace Gargiulo tallied her first goal of the game on an assist from Amanda Baker. Senior Justine Titko found the back of the cage on a free position shot and was followed only 18 seconds later by fellow senior midfielder Sammi Jo Bell on a pass from McIntyre. Titko fed an open McIntyre on the crease for the sixth goal of the streak.

Lebanon Valley (6-8, 4-7) tallied its first goal with 21:59 left in the half, but the Lady Warriors offense continued to cruise, rattling off another five unanswered goals, featuring five different goal scorers. McIntyre started the scoring again, followed by Bell on a pass from Titko. Baker got in on the scoring action, finishing a pass from Gargiulo, who then scored an unassisted tally. Senior Brianna Robertson gave Lycoming an 11-1 lead after beating the goalie. Titko was credited with the assist.

“It was a big goal for us to assist on a lot of our goals today,” said head coach Erica Brown. “I think I we accomplished that.”

With 7:55 left on the clock, McIntyre found the back of the goal for her 150th career tally. Rounding out the half in scoring was Robertson and Bell. The Lady Warriors assisted seven of their first 14 goals, two of which were in free position. Lycoming took a 14-3 lead into the break.

The Dutchmen found a way to slow the pace of Lycoming’s offense in the second half, allowing only seven goals in the final 30 minutes. McIntyre again scored the first goal of the period. The Lady Warriors were held scoreless until Gargiulo tallied an unassisted goal 15 minutes later with 10:20 left on the clock. McIntyre handed out three consecutive assists, twice to Titko and another to Baker.

Freshman attacker Kristin Mazzola scored her first career goal with just 31 seconds remaining in the game, receiving the pass from Titko. McIntyre book ended the day with the final tally coming with 14 seconds on the clock.

McIntyre had six goals and four assists for 10 points, the second-most she has scored this season. Gargiulo and Baker each scored three times and had one assist while Titko had a seven point game with three goals and four helpers. Robertson scored twice on three shots. In goal, Brittany Bryan made six stops in the first half and picked up the win.

The Lady Warriors were strong in the clearing game, getting the ball on offense 17 out of 18 attempts, including a perfect seven-for-seven in the second half.

“Transition was the best it has looked all season,” said Brown “We moved the ball well and kept our passes going forward into the offensive zone.”

Lycoming returns to the Robert L. Shangraw Athletic Complex for one final game of the regular season on Saturday, May 1 when it hosts Arcadia University. The game will begin at 4 p.m. following a men’s lacrosse game.
