WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Ten different goal scorers helped the Lycoming College women’s lacrosse team defeat King’s College 16-2 on Wednesday, April 14. The Lady Warriors held an 11-1 advantage at halftime.
Lycoming (5-7, 4-4) opened the action with a seven-goal run, with five different players scoring.
Amanda Baker started the streak just one minute into the tilt. Sophomore
Grace Gargiulo found the net on a Megan McIntyre pass with 26:59 left in the first half. Senior midfielder
Sammi Jo Bell and
Ashley Steel connected, with Bell on the tally and Steel on the helper.
McIntyre scored back-to-back goals, with Bell on one assist. Gargiulo converted a pass from McIntyre and then found an open Bell to give Lycoming a 7-0 lead.
After the Monarchs (0-10, 0-5) scored their first goal, Lycoming opened its scoring up full throttle, posting another eight goals unanswered.
Justine Titko scored with 7:11 remaining in the first half, with Baker on the assist. Gargiulo scored two consecutive tallies, with Bell on one assist and
Meagan Pittius on the other. Junior
Kate Isennock,
Ashley Collins and Pittius all scored unassisted goals to open the second half.
Steel scored on a pass from
Veronica Clair before Clair tallied a goal of her own. Titko scored the final goal of the game with 3:57 left on a pass from
Brooke Strausser.
In the cage, senior Brittany Bryan (Petersburg, Pa./Ocean City) made 15 saves in her 60 minutes. McIntyre caused a team-best three turnovers.
Lycoming is at home for its next game on Saturday, April 17 when it hosts Alvernia University at 1 p.m. at the Robert L. Shangraw Athletic Complex.
