ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Despite hat tricks from seniors Justine Titko and Amanda Baker, the Lycoming College women’s lacrosse team suffered a 22-10 Middle Atlantic Conference loss at the hands of Elizabethtown College on Thursday, April 1.
The first half was a back and forth affair, with the Lady Blue Jays (6-3, 5-0) scoring the first goal of the game, but two goals from
Titko and one from
Baker gave Lycoming a 3-1 advantage. With 22 minutes left in the half, Elizabethtown scored its second goal, with Lycoming tacking on another two unanswered goals from Baker and
Megan McIntyre. The Blue Jays outscored Lycoming 9-2 over the final 15 minutes of first half to take an 11-7 lead into the break.
Lycoming (4-5, 3-2) picked up its eighth goal of the game from senior
Jackie Calbi at the start of the second half, but the Blue Jays’ offense continued to find its rhythm, finding the back of the goal nine times before McIntyre scored with 6:39 remaining on the clock. Titko scored the final Lycoming tally of the game with 1:38 left.
Sophomore
Grace Gargiulo handed out two assists while McIntyre and Titko each dished out one. Lycoming’s draw control efforts were led by
Sammi Jo Bell, who grabbed five along with two groundballs. In goal, senior
Brittany Bryan made five saves.
As a team, Lycoming picked up 16 groundballs and 16 draw controls, but turned the ball over 27 times. The Lady Warriors also had trouble in transition, clearing the ball only six times on 18 attempts.
Lycoming is on the road for its next game against Messiah College on Tuesday, April 6 in Grantham, Pa. The first draw is set for 4 p.m.
