Women's lacrosse picks up huge 11-8 conference win over Eastern

ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – The Lycoming College women’s lacrosse team avenged a pair of losses to Eastern University last season with an 11-8 conference victory on the road on Saturday March 27. The Lady Warriors enjoyed goals from five different scorers. 

It was a game of runs, with the Eagles scoring the first two goals of the game, but Megan McIntyre took charge, scoring a natural hat trick, with an assist coming from Paige Botti and another on a free position. Despite Eastern tying the game at three apiece, Lycoming rounded out the first half with goals from Brooke Strausser and McIntyre to hold a 5-3 advantage at halftime. 

Eastern (3-4, 2-2) opened the second half with a four-goal run, taking a 7-5 lead. Justine Titko and Brianna Robertson scored back-to-back goals to tie the game at seven. The Eagles grabbed their final goal of the game with 10:08 left in the game, but with its potent offense, Lycoming rallied and scored the last four goals of the game. McIntyre, Strausser, Grace Gargiulo and Sammi Jo Bell each tallied a goal, with McIntyre assisting the Bell tally.

McIntyre finished with five goals and an assist as Titko found the back of the net twice and dished out one helper. Strausser netted two goals. Botti and Bell both tallied one assist. Senior netminder Brittany Bryan made 12 stops and earned the victory. 

As a team, Lycoming (4-4, 3-1) capitalized on 19 total shots in the game, and cleared the ball well, transitioning from offense to defense on 22 of its 25 attempts. 

The Lady Warriors are at Elizabethtown College for their next game on Thursday, April 1. The opening draw is slated for 4 p.m.
