WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – With an 8-4 lead at halftime, the Lycoming College women’s lacrosse was stunned by an 8-3 second-half scoring effort by Widener University. The Lady Warriors fell 12-11 on Saturday, March 20 in its second Middle Atlantic Conference game of the season. Senior midfielder Justine Titko scored her 100th career goal in the contest.
In the first half, the Lady Warrior’s offense got the scoring going early, taking an 8-4 advantage into half time. The two teams traded goals to start the period, but Lycoming strung together five unanswered goals.
Amanda Baker scored twice in the half, as did
Brianna Robertson. Megan McIntyre,
Sammi Jo Bell and
Jackie Calbi each tallied one goal. In the cage, Brittany Bryan made seven saves in the stanza.
The Pride (3-2, 1-0) came out strong in the second stanza, rattling off a 8-1 run, led by Rachel Porter and Calina Walz, who each scored twice. Lycoming picked up goals from
Titko,
McIntyre and Baker.
Baker finished the game with three goals, while McIntyre, Robertson and Titko all tallied two. Bell and McIntyre each handed out two assists.
Bryan made 10 stops on the game, while also collecting two groundballs and causing one turnover.
As a team, the Warriors (2-4, 1-1) took 31 shots and picked up 23 groundballs, led by Titko’s seven groundballs. Lycoming caused the Pride to turn the ball over on 10 occasions. The Lady Warriors had a better outing in the clearing game, getting the ball through transition 16 out of 21 attempts.
Lycoming is back for the third game of a home stand when it plays host to Misericordia University in a Middle Atlantic Conference game on Wednesday, March 24. The first draw is slated for 4 p.m. at the Robert L. Shangraw Athletic Complex.
