WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Despite a furious comeback attempt late in the game, the Lycoming College women’s lacrosse team suffered a 9-7 loss to Susquehanna University in its final non-conference game of the season on Thursday, March 18. Senior Amanda Baker tallied three goals.
The Lady Warriors (2-3) struck first, taking an early 2-0 lead. But the Crusaders evened the score on two unanswered goals. Lycoming took a 3-2 lead with 20 minutes left in the half, but Susquehanna scored another two goals before the clock ran out, taking a 4-3 lead into half time.
Sammi Jo Bell scored the first goal of the game, while
Baker tallied Lycoming’s other two scores.
Megan McIntyre and Justine Titko each had one assist.
At the start of the second half,
Titko knotted the score at four, with the assist coming from
Brooke Strausser. The Crusaders scored back-to-back goals on two separate occasions in the second half. Down 9-6, Baker drove to the cage and scored with 1:08 left in the game. The Lady Warriors could not complete the comeback. Titko scored her second goal of the game in the second half, while senior
Paige Botti tallied one goal.
Baker finished the game with three goals while Titko tallied two scores and an assist. Botti and Bell each scored once. Botti, McIntyre and Strausser each handed out one helper. Midfielder
Brianna Robertson led the game in both caused turnovers (5) and groundballs (7), while also taking four shots. Bell and Titko both had three draw controls. In the cage,
Brittany Bryan made 12 stops while collecting three groundballs and picking two passes.
“There are some aspects of the game that we dominated,” said head coach
Erica Brown. “But we need to be able to put together a full lacrosse game. Our defense came up big too; Brittany Bryan had a big game in the goal.”
As a team, Lycoming took 22 shots, tallying 11 in each half. The Lady Warriors dominated the groundball game, picking up 27 to the Crusaders 15. Lycoming also came up big in the draw circle, controlling 11 to Susquehanna’s 7. The Lady Warriors had difficulty in transition, clearing only 14 of their 24 attempts.
Lycoming will be at home for its next game when it hosts Widener University on Saturday, March 20. The first draw is set for 1 p.m.
Notes: Titko is just one goal away from breaking her 100th career goal … as a program, Lycoming has tallied 99 victories … Susquehanna holds a 10-3 advantage in the series
