PURCHASE, N.Y. – Senior attacker Amanda Baker played with no holds barred, scoring four goals and dishing out another four assists to give the Lycoming College Lady Warriors their first Middle Atlantic Conference victory of the 2010 season, downing Manhattanville College 15-4 on Saturday, March 13.

In the first half, the Valiants (0-3, 0-1) scored the first goal, and the Lady Warriors answered with two of their own before Manhattanville tied the game at two apiece. Ending the first period on a 6-1 run, the Lady Warriors took an 8-3 lead into halftime. Baker tallied two goals in the first stanza and handed out two of her assists.

Lycoming got a lot of first-half production from its midfielders, with Brianna Robertson tallying two goals and another goal from senior Justine Titko. Senior attacker Megan McIntyre chipped in two goals.

“They came out strong and grabbed some early draw controls,” said Lycoming head coach Erica Brown. “But our attack was able to string together some goals, and our midfield had a very strong outing which was key.”

Lycoming (2-2, 1-0) extended its goal streak even further in the second half, holding the Valiants scoreless until the final minute of the game. Baker had a hand in the first three goals of the half, scoring the first and third, while assisting Robertson on the second.

Junior Meagan Pittius, sophomore Veronica Clair and freshman Brooke Strausser each found the back of the net for the first goal of their careers. Pittius’ and Strausser’s goals were unassisted while Clair converted a pass from Titko.

Justine Titko
Baker and Robertson each finished with four goals. McIntyre scored twice, while Titko, Pittius, Strauser and Clair all scored once. McIntyre played unselfish lacrosse, handing out three assists on the day, while Titko and Kate Isennock each had one.

Between the pipes, Lycoming split time between two goalies, with Brittany Bryan getting the start and win, making five saves while backup Libby Stoesz saw time in 13 minutes and made two saves.

“We had to adjust our transition game a little, we couldn’t rely on the long pass in the wind and weather we had to play with today,” said Brown.

Despite the poor conditions, Lycoming cleared the ball 16 times on 23 attempts, including 10 of 12 in the second half, while the Valiants could only get the ball on offense 14 out of 22 times.

Lycoming will play in its home opener on Thursday, March 18 when it hosts local rival Susquehanna University. The first draw is set for 4 p.m. at the Robert L. Shangraw Athletic Complex.

Notes: Titko is just two goals away from reaching 100 in her career … since joining the Middle Atlantic Conference, Manhattanville has never beaten Lycoming (0-3) … second year head coach Brown is 2-0 against the Valiants
