Box Score CHESTER, Pa. – The Lycoming College men’s soccer team took its first lead in Commonwealth Conference play in the 2010 season at Widener on Friday night, Oct. 8, but it was short-lived, as the Pride tied the game in the 80th minute and neither team could get the golden goal through two overtimes, as the contest ended in a 1-1 draw.
The Warriors (6-6-1 overall, 0-0-1 Commonwealth) got on the board in the 50th minute, as sophomore Mike Krebs (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) headed a pass from senior Joe Karslo (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills Regional) into the back of the net.
However, the Pride (4-7-2 overall, 0-0-1 Commonwealth) drew even 30 minutes later, as D.J. DiPaola scored the game-tying goal after a corner kick scrum.
From there, neither team could get a shot on the net, with only Widener taking a shot in the two overtimes.
Sophomore James Quinn (Tonawanda, N.Y./Kenmore East) made four saves in the match for the Warriors, with all four coming in the second half. Ryan Frantz posted one save for the Pride, as Widener held a 17-8 advantage in shots and a 12-3 advantage in corner kicks.
It was a tough fought game with nearly 40 fouls, with Widener edging the Warriors in that category, 21-18.
The Warriors next head to No. 10 Messiah for a 7 p.m. Commonwealth Conference match on Tuesday.
