READING, Pa. – After snapping a four-game skid on Wednesday night, Oct. 27, at Wilkes, the Lycoming College men’s soccer team capped its 2010 season in dramatic style on Saturday, Oct. 30, leaving the field as sophomore Matt Snively (Hollywood, Pa./Leonardtown) put in the rebound off his own penalty kick in double overtime, as the Warriors downed Albright, 2-1, in Commonwealth Conference action.
The Warriors conclude their season with an 8-10-1 overall record and a 1-5-1 mark in the Commonwealth Conference. Albright fell to 9-8-1 overall and 1-5-1 in the conference.
Snively was awarded a penalty kick in the 102nd minute and after the Albright keeper made the save, Snively came in for his own rebound, putting it in the back of the net.
The Warriors got on the board first, as sophomore Will Reiber (Crofton, Md./South River) and sophomore Dominick Dorsey (Manchester, Md./North Carroll) helped get the team on the board in the 77th minute, as a flick over the defense found Snively, who put the ball in the back of the net for his sixth goal of the season.
Six minutes later, though, the Lions evened the score, as Shawn Murphy crossed a pass that was headed into the near post by Gibrilla Conde, setting up the dramatic conclusion.
Sophomore James Quinn (Tonawanda, N.Y./Kenmore East) made four saves to earn the win and Albright keepers Ryan Barr and Phil Jones combined for five saves, as the Warriors held a 14-10 advantage in shots.
Snively crossed 20 points in his career during the game with his first goal, as the sophomore led the Warriors with seven goals and three assists for 17 points in 2010. He also added two goals and an assist as a freshman.
