Box Score DALLAS, Pa. --- In the opening game of the 2009 Misericordia Kickoff Classic, the Lycoming College women’s soccer team fell to The College Of New Jersey, ranked ninth in the region at the end of the 2008 season, by a score of 8-1 on Friday, Sept. 4. The Lions utilized seven different players scoring in the contest.
The loss drops Lycoming to 0-1-1 on the season, while TCNJ improves to 2-0 overall.
The lone point scorers for Lycoming were twin sisters Kari and Kati Shaner (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville.) Kati Shaner sent the ball in on a corner kick and Kari Shaner finished the goal in the 56th minute. With the Lions holding a 40-2 advantage in shots, the Shaners were the only Warriors to record a shot.
Two Lycoming net minders split time in the game, with senior Brie Pepe (Lafayette, N.J./High Point Regional) tallying five saves and sophomore Chelsea Powers (Dover, Pa./Dover Area) making eight stops.
The Lady Warriors return to action on Saturday, Sept. 5 for the second game of the Classic when the face Moravian College. The game is set to begin at 1 p.m. on the campus of Misericordia University.
