WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. --- Finding themselves down 2-0 early in the second half, the Lycoming College men’s soccer team played with poise, coming back to win in double overtime 3-2 against Saint Vincent College on Saturday, Sept. 26. Dan Marcin hit the game winner midway through the second overtime period to pick up the victory.
With the win, Lycoming improves to 7-2 overall and Saint Vincent is 3-7-1.
The two teams played close the first half, with either side taking two shots in the opening period, going into the half knotted at zero.
In the second half, the Bearcats jumped out to a 2-0 lead, which they would carry until the 80th minute of the match when freshman Jimmy Deasel hit the first of his two goals, taking a shot from outside the box on the right and connecting it and giving senior forward Chris Loreznet (Forest Hills, Md./C. Milton Wright) the assist.
Deasel (Kingsville, Md./Loyola-Blakefield) tied the game at two apiece with another goal five minutes later, unassisted after taking a shot from outside the box on the right side. The two teams battled into extra time before Marcin (Wilmington, Del./Concord) received a pass from Lorenzet, dribbled around his defender and scored the game-winner.
Senior goalkeeper Matt Klipp (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen) made four stops on the day, facing eight Bearcat shots. The game was a physical one, with two yellow cards for Lycoming and one for Saint Vincent.
Lycoming travels to Baptist Bible in Glenside, Pa. on Tuesday, Sept. 29 for one of its final non-conference games of the season. The game is set to begin at 4 p.m.
