WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. --- Despite out shooting its opponents, the Lycoming College men’s soccer team could not defeat Juniata College, falling by a score of 2-1 on Tuesday, Sept. 22. The Warriors took 15 shots, while the Eagles managed just seven on the day.
With the loss, Lycoming now stands at 6-2 on the season, while Juniata improves to 4-3.
Both teams battled throughout the first half, with neither team connecting on a goal. The Warriors test the Juniata net minder early, forcing him to make two saves in the first half. The Warriors and the Eagles went into half time knotted at zero.
Midway through the second half, the Warriors were the victim of an own-goal after an Eagle player took a shot and in an attempt to clear the ball, a Lycoming defender knocked the ball in to the cage. Juniata took a 2-0 advantage 65:45 into the match. Lycoming pulled within one, on a Randon Wilston (Mainesburg, Pa./Mansfield HS) goal. Wilston received the ball after freshman forward Jimmy Deasel took a shot that rebounded off an Eagle defender. The goal came with 82:31 on the clock.
The Warriors forced Juniata’s goalkeeper to make 9 saves on the day, while Warrior keeper David Bald (Edgewater, Md./South River) made two saves on the day. Lycoming also held an advantage in corners, taking six to Juniata’s one.
Lycoming returns to the Robert L. Shangraw Athletic Complex on Saturday, Sept. 26 when it hosts St. Vincent College at 1 p.m.
