Box Score WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. --- Using speed and controlling the play, the Lycoming College women’s soccer team defeated cross-town rival Penn College 2-0 on Monday, Sept. 21. The Lady Warriors offense played strong, with Kaitlin Horn and Sammi Jo Bell combined for 15 shots on the evening.
Lycoming improves to 3-4-1 overall while Penn College suffers its first loss of the season and is 4-1.
Horn (Ringtown, Pa./North Schuylkill) got the scoring in early, getting around her defender and forcing a one-on-none situation with the goalie. Horn took advantage of the play, finding the net at 17:19. Lycoming controlled the action in the first half, taking a 16-2 advantage in shots. The Lady Warriors rode their 1-0 lead into halftime.
The second half was much the same story, with Lycoming taking an additional 16 shots. Kati Shane (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) had an excellent opportunity to score the insurance goal with 14 minutes left on the clock, but was called offsides. Bell (Maple Shade, N.J./Maple Shade) put Lycoming up 2-0 with 3:33 left, she juked around her defender and taking a shot from the top of the box and beating the keeper to the far right post.
Lycoming peppered the Wildcat goal tender Yulia Laird, putting 14 shots on goal, forcing her to make 11 saves. The Warrior goalies Brie Pepe (Lafayette, N.J./High Point Regional) and Jennifer Basch (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) however were untested, with Penn College taking just three shots, none of which were on goal.
Lycoming is back at home on Thursday, Sept. 24 for a 4 p.m. match versus Baptist Bible at the Robert L. Shangraw Athletic Complex.
