Lady Warrior volleyball downs Altoona 3-0

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.
--- After starting games two and three down on the scoreboard, the Lycoming College volleyball won the match 3-0 over Mount Aloysius College on Monday, Sept. 14. Senior setter Abby Myers contriubuted heavily with six service aces on the night.

Lycoming is now 3-5 on the season while Mount Aloysius slips to 2-5.

In game one, the Lady Warriors started off strong, going up 6-0 being the Mounties took a time out. Lycoming continued to play strong, grabbing seven point advantage, 8-1. Mount Aloysius fought back, eventually getting to within four, 11-7. Lycoming took command with a 17-9 lead before finishing off the match 25-13.

The first part of the second game belonged to service aces, with both teams rattling off two service aces. The Mounties grabbed a quick 7-4 lead. Lycoming scrapped its way back to tie 12 all. The Lady Warriors took a 20-14 lead on a heavy Kelly Rose (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Bishop Hoban) swing. Lycoming increased its lead with another strong attack, this time from McKenna Warren, putting the Warriors up 23-18. The Mounties fought back with Lycoming up 23-21 before a Warrior timeout. Lycoming eventually took the second stanza 25-23 after Mount Aloysius committed a service error.

Game three began with the Mounties commanding a 5-0 before the Warriors found the board, down 5-1. Mount Aloysius continued to play strong, going up 11-5 before Lycoming closed the gap 11-9, forcing the Mounties to take a timeout.  After the time out, Warren Elmira, N.Y./CMS Elmira) again tied the match at 14 with a heavy swing. Both teams scored two points, knotting the contest at 16 apiece. The Warriors climbed back to take the lead, 22-18 before another Mountie timeout. Lycoming took the final game 25-20.

Megan Schulze
At the net, junior middle hitter Megan Schulze (Reedsville, Pa./Indian Valley) had an outstanding match, scoring five solo blocks and three assisted blocks. Sophomore libero Emily Abel (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) tallied 20 digs while senior Myers (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg) handed out 18 assists. Senior defensive specialist Alyssa Taylor (Camp Hill, Pa./Cedar Cliff) tallied nine digs on the night.

The Lady Warriors are in action again on the evening of Wednesday, Sept. 16 when they travel to Alvernia University for a 7 p.m. start.
