WILLIAMSPORT Pa. --- The Lycoming College volleyball team fell 3-0 to Penn State Altoona on Tuesday, Sept. 1. Senior Beth Machella and junior Megan Schulze led the Lady Warriors with six kills each.
The loss drops Lycoming to 0-1 on the season, while Altoona improves to 1-0.
The two squads battled hard through the first game, with the Lions needing an extra point to win 26-24. Lycoming battled back late in second game, eventually falling 25-22. Altoona took control early of the third match, defeating the Lady Warriors 25-16.
Machella (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) led Lycoming in attack attempts, taking 20 swings. She also recorded a team second-high 13 digs. Schulze (Reedsville, Pa./Indian Valley) took 18 attempts and posted one block solo and one block assist. Sophomore libero Emily Abel (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) was the game high scorer in digs, scooping up 27.
The Lady Warriors are on the road for their next game when they travel to Wilkes-Barre, Pa. to face cross-conference opponent Wilkes University. Match time is set for 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2 in the Ralston Center.
