ST. DAVIDS, Pa. --- The Lycoming College Lady Warriors fell in the first round of the 2009 Middle Atlantic Conference to Eastern University by a score of 14-12 on Tuesday, April 28. Megan McIntyre was the game’s leading point-getter with four goals and three assists for seven points.
The Lady Warriors wrap up their season with an even 9-9 record overall and 7-4 in the Middle Atlantic Conference. Eastern advances to the semifinals with an 11-6 and 8-3 record.
It was a close game throughout. McIntyre was the first to find the net, just 2:10 into the game. The Lady Eagles scored the next two goals before Christi Karr and Bri Robertson scored back-to-back Warrior goals, with McIntyre assisting Robertson for the 2-1 lead with 16:55 remaining in the half. Following an Eastern goal, McIntyre and Karr connected for the 3-2 advantage. But a three goal series by Eastern put Lycoming down 6-4. Justine Titko scored twice under two minutes to even the score to six aside to end the first half.
Eastern opened the second period with two straight goals, but then allowed Lycoming to go on a three goal run. Grace Gargiulo scored twice giving Lycoming a 9-8 boost, with an assist from McIntyre, who also scored in the series, assisted by Karr. Eastern responded with its own three goal run, which was broken up by McIntyre, closing the gap to 11-10. Laura Carpenter knotted the score at 12 with back-to-back goals of her own, handing McIntyre her third assist. But the Lady Warriors were unable to break the tie, allowing two more Eastern goals to end the game 14-12.
First-year head coach Erica Brown and the Lady Warriors will look to improve during the offseason for the 2009-10 season.
