Women's lacrosse suffers 20-10 loss to No. 18 Etown

Brittany BryanWILLIAMSPORT, Pa. --- The Lycoming College women’s lacrosse team suffered a 20-10 defeat against the 18th best team in the country in Elizabethtown College on Wednesday, April 15. Justine Titko and Sammi Jo Bell both had two goals and one assist in the loss.

The defeat drops the Lady Warriors to 6-7 overall and 4-3 in the Middle Atlantic Conference, while Elizabethtown improves to 12-2 and 8-0 in the league.

Both teams were plagued by yellow cards, with a total of nine handed out, including six to the Warriors. Midway through the second half, both teams were short two players.  Elizabethtown struck the board first, but Crystal Cody countered four minutes later to tie the score at one. Three straight Blue Jay goals started the offensive juggernaut before Megan McIntyre cooled them off with a goal at 17:44. Another five goal run put the gap at 9-2. Bell found the net for her first go to break up the streak and cut the lead in half, 10-5. Elizabethtown took a 12-5 lead into halftime.

The Blue Jays took over in second half, outscoring Lycoming 8-5. McIntyre, Cody, and Titko all scored in the second period, and Grace Gargiulo and Bri Robertson both tallied scores. Christi Karr and Amanda Baker both tossed in assists.

Warrior DefenseGrace Gargiulo was big on draw controls, coming up with five. Six different Lady Warriors picked up multiple groundballs. In the cage, Brittany Bryan made 14 saves, while the defense in front of her caused nine Blue Jay turnovers.

Lycoming will be on the road this weekend, Saturday, April 18 for a huge conference match up against Widener University. Opening draw is set for 1 p.m.
