Lady Warriors edged out 3-2 in overtime by Widener

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.
--- After going up 2-0, the Lycoming College women’s soccer team fell 3-2 in overtime to Widener University in the Commonwealth Conference opener on Saturday, Oct. 3. The Shaner twins Kati and Kari each had an assist in the match.

The loss drops Lycoming to 6-5-1 and 0-1 in the Commonwealth while Widener improves to 9-1-1 on the season and 1-0 in the league.

Lycoming scored its first goal in the 16th minute of the match as Kelly Prendergast (Edison, N.J./Rutgers Preparatory) finished a pass from Kari Shaner (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville). Five minutes later, Lycoming took a 2-0 advantage. Kati Shaner (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) sent in a cross for Kaitlin Horn, who headed the ball pass the Pride goalkeeper.

The Lady Warriors took a 2-1 lead into halftime after Widener’s Sam Baer scored her first goal with 36:17 on the clock.

After the break, the game remained scoreless until 79:23 when Baer scored her second to tie the game 2-2. Seven minutes into the overtime period, Widener scored the game winner and Lycoming picked up its first loss in four games.

Horn (Ringtown, Pa./North Schuylkill) was the Warrior leader in shots, taking two, both of which were on net. Sophomore Chelsea Powers (Dover, Pa./Dover Area) got the start in the goal, making six saves in the game.

Lycoming is back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 7 when it hosts Misericordia University. Game time is set for 4 p.m. at the Robert L. Shangraw Athletic Complex.
