WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. --- After honoring its four seniors, the Lycoming College volleyball team defeated the University of Scranton 3-1 on Thursday, Oct. 15. Senior Alyssa Taylor ended the Lady Warriors' final home game in an appropriate fashion with a service ace. 
 
The win improves Lycoming to 10-14 overall and Scranton slips to 5-14 on the season.
 
The Lady Warriors jumped out to an early 11-7 lead in the first game on a kill from Katie Johnson (Newville, Pa./Big Springs). After a five-point Warrior run, the Royals called a timeout with Lycoming up 19-13. The Lady Warriors wrapped up the first set 25-16.
 
In the second set, the two teams rallied back and forth to tie the game at 13. Down 17-16, Lycoming battled back and took the lead 20-19, forcing Scranton into another timeout. With two power kills from Beth Machella (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) and Kelly Rose (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Bishop Hoban), Lycoming won game two 25-21.
 
Scranton won the third set 25-15. In the fourth game, the two teams contined to battle, knotting the score at 10 on a finisher from senior Abby Myers (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg) and Amy Sharlow (Fair Lawn, N.J./Fair Lawn) was credited with assist. Lycoming finally broke the tie at 15-14. After several long rallies, Lycoming continued with the lead, 20-19. Lycoming sealed its win 25-23 in the final set of the match on the Taylor (Camp Hill, Pa./Cedar Valley) ace. 
 
Rose was the leader in kills with 12 on 31 attempts while Machella scored 10 kills. Myers handed out 36 assists in the four-set match, libero Emily Abel (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) kept the ball in play with 28 digs. Schulze led the team in blocks with five solo and five assisted.
 
Lycoming travels to Commonwealth opponent Arcadia for its next match on Tuesday, Oct. 20. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
