SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Lycoming College women’s soccer team fell 3-1 against York College (Pa.) on Sunday, Aug. 31, at the Susquehanna Women’s Soccer Classic. Three Lady Warriors were named to the All-Tournament team.
Senior Bekah Shipe, who set Lycoming’s all-time scoring record with two goals in the first game of the tournament, was joined by fellow seniors Sarah Wingerden and Dana Steinbruch on the All-Tournament team.
York opened the scoring in the 29th minute and added a second goal in the 39th minute to take a 2-0 lead into the half.
Wingerden put the Lady Warriors on the board in the 51st minute, scoring the first goal of the season that did not come on a penalty kick. She was assisted by sophomore transfer Kari Shaner.
York responded with a third goal in the 58th minute to seal the win.
Freshman goalkeeper Chelsea Powers took the loss while being credited with six saves.
Lycoming was outshot 24-10 in the contest, with York holding a 9-3 advantage in shots on goal. Corner kicks were even at three each.
With the loss, the Lady Warriors drop to 0-1-1 on the season while York improves to 1-0-1.
Lycoming is back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 3, at Marywood. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
