Sye hits career milestone in big Warrior win

Greg SyeELMIRA, N.Y. – Greg Sye reached 1,000 career points en route to leading the Lycoming men’s basketball team to an 81-49 road victory against Elmira on Wednesday, Dec. 3.

Sye (Chantilly, Va.) led the Warriors with his third double-double of the season, finishing with 20 points and 12 rebounds. He entered the game needing just eight points to reach the 1,000-point plateau.

The two teams battled back and forth for the first 13 minutes of the game before Eric Anthony (Wheeling, W.V.) connected on a 3-pointer with 7:06 left in the half to put the Warriors up 22-21. Lycoming did not trail again in the contest.

The Warriors led by just six, 30-24, at the intermission, but opened the second half with a 16-4 run during the first five minutes to increase the lead to 18 points at 46-28. Lycoming pushed its lead up to over 30 points within the final two minutes and outscored the Soaring Eagles 51-25 in the second half.

Sye scored his milestone point on a jumper with 11:28 left in the first half.

Anthony finished the game with 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting. Will Kelly (Williamsport, Pa.) added 12 points and seven rebounds while Taylor Volpe (Hughesville, Pa.) added seven points off the bench.

Bobby DiPiazza was the lone scorer in double-figures for Elmira, tying Sye for the game’s high scorer with 20 points.

Lycoming shot 52.4 percent from the field (33-of-63) to Elmira’s 34.6 percent (18-of-52) and held a 39-28 advantage in rebounds.

With the win, the Warriors improve to 4-2 on the season. Elmira drops to 2-3.

Lycoming is back in action on Saturday, Dec. 6, when Shenandoah travels to Williamsport for a 3 p.m. tip at Lamade Gymnasium.
